Deposit protection
EU Deposit Protection at a Glance
All banks listed on Vontobel are members of a statutory deposit protection scheme in their respective EU member state. If a bank becomes insolvent, deposits are protected up to €100,000 per customer and per institution.
Who is protected?
- Private individuals and most legal entities
- Deposits held in current, savings and fixed-term deposit accounts
- Funds in EUR and selected other currencies
What does this mean in practice?
If you invest €120,000 with one bank, €100,000 would be protected and €20,000 would not. If the same amount is split across two banks (€60,000 each), both amounts would be fully protected.
Country-specific systems
Each EU country operates its own scheme (for example EdB Germany, DGS Netherlands, FGDR France). The minimum protection amount of €100,000 is harmonised across the EU.
